Hey Marc, I feel your pain. Unfortunately I can’t help you there. I have never looked into making changes to ACF via phpMyAdmin. If you try it out, definitely use a copy of your site because you can do some serious damage otherwise. Good luck!

We want to make a bulk changes to a custom added ACF field on user meta-data. Can I use PHP my admin to do that by the database? I was told that it’s generally not a good idea to change user meta-data from the database directly .

Any risk ?

We have 900 users end don’t want to do this one user at a time.

I was looking over some plugin that handles the database on the dashboard and falls here. 🙂

Domino phpmyadmin but I could not help commenting to let my congratulations to the author of this rich and well illustrated post.

Are every 11 tables needed to make wordpress works proprerly? I ask it because I can’t manage to migrate correctly a wordpress website from an host to another, and the database given to has half of that number of tables.

Will you also do a follow-up with simple queries? I’m thinking search and replace, that kind of stuff…

Hey John,

thanks for your input! I stumbled across Adminer while researching this article but haven’t used it myself. After your endorsement I am thinking of giving it a shot. Might be worth another article…

Thanks again!
Nick

Thanks for an interesting article.

Also it will typically be easier just to install a plugin like Adminer that makes PHPMyAdmin or a similar application run within WordPress. Then it’s protected by the WP login and access controls plus whatever other security you have in place, it will also be subject to automatic upgrades. If you manually install PHPMyAdmin on your server without restricting access to it by IP, then anyone in the world can bang away on it, and you’ll need to upgrade it if you want to keep it there for long. The best situation in my opinion is to use a WP host that provides their own GUI for database manipulation so it’s inaccessible on the public web and application side.
