Hey Chloe, thanks a lot for your comment. This refers to the fact that WordPress has a lot of custom hooks and functions, knowing which makes working with WordPress much quicker and easier. Of course, you can also use plain PHP to get things done. I might have done a better job wording this. Thanks for pointing that out!

Is this supposed insinuate that wordpress uses a unique version of PHP that’s different from the standard php versions? I think this is misleading; you can use normal php when coding in wordpress.

Hey Kevin, the point is that you can use WordPress for content management (e.g writing articles) but then display it with a different technology stack. This is very useful, say, if you want to code your entire front end in JavaScript but use the WordPress back end for the administrative tasks.
