There is a way, using filters. This post on Stack Exchange is a good starting point. An easier solution might be to input the featured image manually inside the editor instead and use an SEO plugin to make sure it gets used as the featured image on social networks as well.

the featured image (homepage) on a desktop is completely different to the featured image on a mobile device

it can also be seen on a desktop if you drag the corner webpage inwards to make the screen smaller then when it gets to a certain size the featured image changes automatically

i have a similar issue like Marco
So what i am trying to achieve is the Homepage featured image
now the featured image looks good on the desktop layout (1960x500px)
but
on a mobile screen the image does not get shrunk down to fit the screen size and only a close up of the image can be seen (like its a crop of the original image)
so
what i would like is to have one large image for the desktop home featured image
and a second different featured image “Only” for the mobile screen (Squarer format image)
i have seen this done on the same theme as what i am using so i know it can be achieved

now trying to find out how to do this…

any advice much appreciated

I was wondering why my featured image is blocking off a widget we have on our Webpage? I’ve tried cropping/minimizing the featured image but it still blocks it off.

You can see it slightly when the image transitions to the next image on the home page but I would like it to be clear for the user to click and use.
