IMHO FVM is better than Autoptimise according to the speed tests but it needs additional features like automatically purging cache
or in a set interval of days ( not more than two though) + the very latest version is not good at all
For minification one can use WP Super Minify which is now compatible with 5.2.2.
However the article is great in explanation of JavaScript and CSS optimization warp.
